RINA's online and residential training course assists delegates in preparing for the API 570: Certified Pipework Inspector examinations.

Topics covered by the RINA API 570 training course include code calculations and inspection intervals for new and degraded pipework and thickness calculations of pipes and blanks. Delegates are taught the basics of hydraulic, pneumatic and leak testing, as well as test requirements and exemptions. Delegates study minimum wall thickness, working pressure and temperature requirements for pipework flanges. The course builds upon the general rules for welding by providing in-depth knowledge of weld heat treatment requirements and Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)/Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) evaluation. Delegates also learn about the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) requirements of ASME BPVC Section V and Positive Material Identification (PMI) requirements and procedures.

What is API?

The American Petroleum Institute (API) offers a certification programme for individual in-service inspectors handling the in-service inspection of pressure vessels, pipework and storage tanks. API also manages an expansive catalogue of API 'codes' which standardise practice. The programme is a legal requirement for many US states, however, the extension of US ownership to include international facilities and onshore plants along with the lack of a similarly broad scope of recognised standards in other countries has resulted in the wide adoption of API practice within international plant industries. Thus, many UK regulatory authorities also use these codes to assess evidence of inspector competence. The API certification programme is broken down into a series of API schemes, known as Individual Certification Programmes (ICPs), of which API 570 is one.
